A beautiful dark purple, accompanied by aromas of blackberries, blueberry and oak. Soft and full of body on the mouth, with medium acidity, balanced tannins, and a medium long finish of crème de cassis, black cherry, and notes of coffee.
Bodegas La Candalaria is owned by a small group of growers and winemakers who were members of the former cooperative. They formed an association with 4 other small bodegas so they can share equipment and technology to reduce their individual overhead costs. The bodega is located near the small village of Casas de Haro where some of the oldest Tempranillo vineyards are located and traditionally yield more complex and high quality red wines. All of the grapes are grown in estate vineyards. This part of the region is extremely hot and dry. The vineyards have many stones, which vary in size between golf ball and softball and help retain moisture in the soil during the hot growing season. The vines are also spaced about 8 feet apart to further compensate for the limited moisture. Each stone has a glossy sheen, which reflects the intense sunlight back up to the grapes, resulting in a very uniform ripening of each cluster.
