Petite Sirah Lodi California

Our Lodi Winery is located Mid-way between the Sierra Foothills and San Francisco Bay Delta. The Lodi vineyards owned by the Van Ruiten Family profit from the ideal delta influenced climate (cool afternoon breeze) that produce ripe the full-flavored Zinfandels, that Lodi is now famous for. Before settlement, the Lodi area now known as the Lodi Appellation was often an inland sea after winter rains and spring snow melt. The resulting flood drainage and soil deposits surrounding Lodi left a rich soil that drains easily, producing one-of-a-kind harvests.

Dark hues, exotic aromas of allspice, plums, and green tea, with flavors of black cherries and ripe plums. Exhibiting generous tannins and a lengthy finish, this Petite Sirah should benefit from several years of aging, yet make a terrific accompaniment to hearty stew, lamb, or wild game.

Bodega Sur de los Andes was created by Guillermo Banfi, a young Argentine professional who entered the wine industry in 2002.

Banfi spent the 1990s in banking and finance, working in Buenos Aires, New York and London acquiring both business experience and a taste for fine wines.

His passion for wine collided with his business training, and, coming at the start of the worldwide boom in Argentina wines, led him to make the decision to leave banking to pursue a dream of creating a high quality, boutique winery dedicated to producing an affordable portfolio.

His first venture was as a co-founder, in 2001, of the Cinco Tierras label which met immediate success in Argentina, France and Brazil followed by an explosive entry into the U.S. market.

In 2005 Banfi sold his stake, hired one of Argentina's rising young stars, winemaker Pablo Durigutti and took the next and most logical step in the evolution of his dream by forming Bodega Sur de los Andes.

Founded in 1980, Schug Carneros Estate Winery is the showcase and life-long dream of one of California's most celebrated winemakers. Walter Schug's reputation blossomed during his tenure as Founding Winemaker for Joseph Phelps Vineyards in the 1970s, where he made California’s first proprietary Bordeaux-Style blend (Insignia) and legendary vineyard designated Cabernets (Backus and Eisele Vineyards).

Drawing on his long experience in the production of fine wines in both Europe and California, Walter set up his own winery with his wife Gertrud in the cool, marine climate of the Carneros Appellation. Here he could focus on the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals that had always been close to his heart.
